Abstract

With the rapid advancement of technology, various innovative methods can be applied in the educational process. However, the learning of history is often perceived as boring by students due to the lack of interactivity in traditional teaching methods. To address this issue, teachers can leverage new technological media, one of which is gaming. This research aims to develop a turn-based RPG (Role Playing Game) application with the theme of Islamic Mataram history. The primary goal of this research is to make history learning more interactive and engaging for students. The method used in the development process of this application is the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC), which consists of six stages: Initialization, Pre-production, Production, Testing, Beta, and Release. The development is carried out using Unity on an Android-based platform, and it applies the Finite State Machine (FSM) method to design behavioral responses to condition changes in turn-based RPG mechanics. The results of this research are expected to make a significant contribution to enhancing students' interest in learning history through a more modern and enjoyable approach.

Seiring dengan pesatnya kemajuan teknologi, berbagai metode inovatif dapat diterapkan dalam proses pendidikan. Namun, pembelajaran sejarah sering kali dianggap membosankan oleh siswa karena kurangnya interaktivitas dalam metode pengajaran tradisional. Untuk mengatasi hal ini, guru dapat memanfaatkan media teknologi baru, salah satunya adalah game. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan aplikasi permainan berbasis turn-based RPG (Role Playing Game) dengan tema sejarah Mataram Islam. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk membuat pembelajaran sejarah menjadi lebih interaktif dan menarik bagi siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam proses pengembangan aplikasi ini adalah Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC), yang terdiri dari enam tahap: Inisialisasi, Pra-produksi, Produksi, Pengujian, Beta, dan Release. Pengembangan dilakukan menggunakan Unity dengan platform berbasis Android, serta menerapkan metode Finite State Machine (FSM) untuk mendesain respons perilaku terhadap perubahan kondisi dalam mekanik turn-based RPG. Hasil dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam meningkatkan minat belajar sejarah siswa melalui pendekatan yang lebih modern dan menyenangkan.
