Abstract
The Bajau Tribe is one of Indonesia’s coastal communities known for its diving and traditional fish-spearing practices. This research aims to design and implement a quest system for the 3D culture-themed game “Bajau Island”, which depicts the traditional activities of the Bajau Tribe, using the Finite State Machine (FSM) method as the core gameplay mechanic, and to produce a player progression system based on Experience Points (EXP). The study applies Finite State Machine theory to manage quest status changes through four states: Not Started, In Progress, Turn In, and Completed. The Game Design Life Cycle (GDLC) method was used for development, consisting of concept, design, implementation, and testing stages, with the game built using the Unity engine and the C# programming language. The discussion shows that the quest system was successfully integrated with the gameplay mechanics through the interaction of the PlayerAttack, FishAI, QuestManager, DaliaInteraction, and PlayerProgression scripts, where quest progress updates automatically when the player catches the target fish. Quesioner Testing results show that all main system functions, including quest acceptance, FSM state transitions, progress recording, and EXP reward distribution, performed according to the design requirements. The study concludes that the FSM implementation produces a structured, easily maintainable quest system that supports the preservation of Bajau culture through an educational game medium.

Suku Bajau merupakan salah satu suku di Indonesia yang dikenal sebagai masyarakat laut dengan tradisi menyelam dan menombak ikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan mengimplementasikan sistem quest pada game 3D bertema budaya Suku Bajau berjudul “Bajau Island” menggunakan metode Finite State Machine (FSM) sebagai mekanik gameplay utama, serta menghasilkan sistem progression pemain berbasis Experience Point (EXP). Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Finite State Machine yang mengelola perubahan status quest melalui empat state, yaitu Not Started, In Progress, Turn In, dan Completed. Metode pengembangan yang digunakan adalah Game Design Life Cycle (GDLC) yang terdiri atas tahap konsep, perancangan, implementasi, dan pengujian, dengan game dikembangkan menggunakan game engine Unity dan bahasa pemrograman C#. Pembahasan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem quest berhasil diintegrasikan dengan mekanik gameplay melalui keterkaitan antara script PlayerAttack, FishAI, QuestManager, DaliaInteraction, dan PlayerProgression, di mana progres quest diperoleh secara otomatis ketika pemain menangkap ikan target. Hasil pengujian menggunakan metode Kuesioner Testing menunjukkan seluruh fungsi utama sistem, mulai dari penerimaan quest, perubahan state FSM, pencatatan progres, hingga pemberian reward EXP, berjalan sesuai kebutuhan yang dirancang. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan FSM mampu menghasilkan sistem quest yang terstruktur, mudah dikembangkan, serta mendukung pelestarian budaya Suku Bajau melalui media game edukatif.
