PENERAPAN RULE OF SIX DALAM MEMBANGUN EMOSIONAL PENONTON MELALUI RITME EDITING PADA FILM PENDEK “RUMPANG ATAU RAMPUNG”

The editor's role in film editing extends beyond assembling visual sequences; it also creates the audience's emotional experience through the management of editing rhythm. The short fiction film Rumpang atau Rampung tells the story of a father–daughter relationship marked by conflict, loss, and regret, requiring an editing strategy that strengthens emotional expression. This final project aims to examine the editor's role in building audience emotions through editing rhythm and to implement Walter Murch's Rule of Six as the foundation of the editing process. This study employs a creative practice method using a qualitative descriptive approach covering the stages of pre-production, production, and post-production. The results show that editing rhythm, through the arrangement of shot duration, editing pace, and cut point placement, effectively enhances the audience's emotional response. The implementation of the Rule of Six successfully prioritizes the emotion aspect, supported by story, rhythm, eye trace, two-dimensional plane of screen, and three-dimensional space of action. Therefore, the Rule of Six proved to be an effective guideline for editors in creating audience emotional engagement through editing rhythm in the short film Rumpang atau Rampung.

Peran editor dalam penyuntingan film tidak hanya menyusun rangkaian gambar, tetapi juga membangun pengalaman emosional penonton melalui pengelolaan ritme editing. Film pendek Rumpang atau Rampung mengangkat kisah hubungan ayah dan anak yang dipenuhi konflik, kehilangan, dan penyesalan sehingga memerlukan strategi penyuntingan yang mampu memperkuat penyampaian emosi. Tugas akhir ini bertujuan mengetahui peran editor dalam membangun emosi penonton melalui pengelolaan ritme film pendek fiksi serta menerapkan konsep Rule of Six Walter Murch sebagai landasan penyuntingan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penciptaan karya dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif melalui tahapan pra produksi, produksi, dan pascaproduksi. Hasil penciptaan menunjukkan bahwa pengaturan ritme editing melalui durasi shot, tempo penyuntingan, dan penempatan cut point mampu memperkuat respons emosional penonton. Penerapan Rule of Six berhasil direalisasikan dengan menempatkan aspek emotion sebagai prioritas utama, didukung oleh aspek story, rhythm, eye trace, two-dimensional plane of screen, dan three-dimensional space of action. Dengan demikian, Rule of Six terbukti efektif sebagai landasan editor dalam membangun pengalaman emosional penonton melalui ritme editing pada film pendek Rumpang atau Rampung.
