Abstract
This research discusses the design and development of 2D pixel art character assets for an educational game titled "Jejak Budaya". The background of this study is driven by the lack of popular educational games among the Indonesian public, as well as the high interest of the target market, Generation Z, in life simulation games. This study aims to produce 2D pixel character asset designs that are aesthetic, consistent, and representative of various cultural elements in Indonesia. The research method used is Design Thinking, which consists of five stages: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. The entire visual design and animation sprite process was carried out using Aseprite software. The results of this study are 39 character assets along with their animation sprites representing the traditional clothing of various ethnic groups in Indonesia. To evaluate the design results, testing was conducted using a Likert scale questionnaire distributed to 46 general respondents. The test results showed that the evaluation of the character's visual assets obtained an average assessment index of 87.33%. This figure proves that the character asset design is successful (falling into the "Strongly Agree" category) and has a strong visual appeal to attract players while clearly conveying cultural educational information.
