Abstract
This study analyzes the application of 2D animation using the key pose animation
method and stylized character design to support the delivery of facial expressions
and gestures in the short film “The Sweetness of Sharing” The study is grounded
in the persistent stiffness of movement and sub optimal delivery of character
expressions in Indonesian 2D animation, which limits child audiences' emotional
connection to the story. The method used was Research and Development (R&D)
with a descriptive qualitative approach and the ADDIE model. Data were
collected through interviews with two animation experts and questionnaires
distributed to 30 child respondents aged 7–10 years (18 offline, 12 online). The
results show that key pose animation clarified poses and emphasized character
expressions, while stylized character design, with larger head proportions and
simplified shapes, helped children understand the characters' emotions and the
story's message. The questionnaire further showed that 80% of respondents found
it very easy to understand character emotions through facial expressions, confirming facial expression as the element most helpful in understanding the
story. The integration of both approaches contributed significantly to the
effectiveness of visual communication in “The Sweetness of Sharing”. Keywords: 2D animation, key pose animation, stylized character design, facial
expression.
anak berusia 7–10 tahun (18 luring, 12 daring).
kuesioner menunjukkan 80% responden sangat mudah memahami emosi karakter
melalui ekspresi wajah, menjadikan ekspresi wajah elemen yang paling membantu
pemahaman cerita. Integrasi kedua pendekatan memberikan kontribusi signifikan
