Abstract

ABSTRACT
The development of 3D animation technology encourages the design of
more detailed and communicative environments in animated films to support the
atmosphere and storytelling. This study aims to design a 3D environment in the film
"Lantern of Archipelago" using polygonal modeling techniques with the Practice
Based Research (PBR) method that focuses on the process of creating the work. The
stages carried out include visual research, concept art development, workflow
design, modeling processes, texturing, lighting, and rendering using Blender
software. The results of the study show that the polygonal modeling technique is
able to produce a structured 3D environment, efficient in mesh processing, and has
visual quality that supports the atmosphere and narrative needs in animated films.

ABSTRAK
Perkembangan teknologi animasi 3D mendorong perancangan environment
yang lebih detail dan komunikatif dalam film animasi sebagai pendukung suasana
dan penyampaian cerita. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang environment 3D pada
film “Lantern of Archipelago” menggunakan teknik polygonal modeling dengan
metode Practice-Based Research (PBR) yang berfokus pada proses penciptaan
karya. Tahapan yang dilakukan meliputi riset visual, pengembangan concept art,
perancangan workflow, proses modeling, texturing, lighting, hingga rendering
menggunakan perangkat lunak Blender. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa
teknik polygonal modeling mampu menghasilkan environment 3D yang terstruktur,
efisien dalam pengolahan mesh, serta memiliki kualitas visual yang mendukung
suasana dan kebutuhan naratif dalam film animasi
