EKSPLORASI TEKNIK NUI SHIBORI PADA BUSANA SIAP PAKAI GENERASI Z UNTUK UMKM IKATI

Growing awareness of sustainable fashion has increased the demand for products that combine aesthetic and cultural values with more responsible production processes. This study aims to explore the nui shibori technique using natural indigo dye and wayang-inspired visual elements and to apply the exploration results to ready-to-wear clothing for Generation Z at Ikati MSME. The research addresses Ikati’s limited product variety, its limited reach among Generation Z consumers, and the uncommon application of wayang visual elements through the nui shibori technique. This study employs the design thinking method developed by the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford, consisting of the empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test stages. Data were collected through observation, interviews, literature studies, benchmarking, and questionnaires distributed to 118 Generation Z women. The results indicate that variations in running-stitch patterns and thread-pulling techniques can produce simplified and modern wayang-inspired motifs. The exploration results were applied to ready-to-wear clothing while maintaining Ikati’s identity through natural indigo dye, shibori techniques, and wayang visual elements. The designs were also adapted to Generation Z’s aesthetic preferences through a feminine arty style and an eclectic look. This study provides an alternative product development approach for Ikati MSME to reach younger consumers.

Perkembangan perhatian terhadap sustainable fashion mendorong kebutuhan akan produk yang memiliki nilai estetika, budaya, serta proses pembuatan yang lebih bertanggung jawab. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi teknik nui shibori menggunakan pewarna alam indigo dengan pengembangan unsur visual wayang serta menerapkannya pada busana siap pakai Generasi Z untuk UMKM Ikati. Permasalahan penelitian berfokus pada terbatasnya variasi produk Ikati, rendahnya jangkauan konsumen Generasi Z, serta belum banyaknya penerapan unsur visual wayang melalui teknik nui shibori. Metode yang digunakan adalah design thinking Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford, meliputi tahap empathize, define, ideate, prototype, dan test. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, studi literatur, benchmarking, dan kuesioner kepada 118 perempuan Generasi Z. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variasi pola jelujur dan penarikan benang pada teknik nui shibori dapat menghasilkan motif wayang yang lebih sederhana dan modern. Hasil eksplorasi diterapkan pada busana siap pakai dengan mempertahankan identitas Ikati berupa warna indigo, teknik shibori, dan unsur visual wayang, serta disesuaikan dengan preferensi Generasi Z melalui style feminine arty dan look eclectic. Penelitian ini menghasilkan alternatif pengembangan produk bagi UMKM Ikati untuk menjangkau pasar yang lebih muda.
