PENGGAMBARAN SITUASI DAN KONDISI TOKOH UTAMA MELALUI VISUAL METAPHOR DALAM SINEMATOGRAFI FILM FIKSI “THE END OF THE WORLD”

Visual metaphor is a technique for representing meaning in film by utilizing visual elements that serve as symbolic representations of a character's situations, emotions, or psychological states. The author of this work aims to apply the concept of visual metaphor to the cinematography of the fictional film “The End of the World” to visually depict the protagonist's emotional dynamics. This application involves the use of mutually reinforcing elements—such as mise-en-scène, composition, lighting, lenses, and camera movement—to construct visual meaning. The creative process encompassed pre-production, production, and post-production stages, ranging from scriptwriting and visual concept development to filming and color grading. The results demonstrate that the use of visual metaphor effectively reinforces the character's conflicts, emotional tension, and psychological development without relying solely on dialogue. Thus, visual metaphor serves as an effective cinematographic approach to supporting the narrative and enhancing the viewer's visual experience.

Visual metaphor merupakan teknik penyampaian makna dalam film melalui pemanfaatan elemen-elemen visual yang berfungsi sebagai representasi simbolis terhadap situasi, emosi, maupun kondisi psikologis tokoh. Penulisan karya ini bertujuan menerapkan konsep visual metaphor dalam sinematografi film fiksi ”The End of the World” untuk menggambarkan dinamika emosional tokoh utama secara visual. Penerapan konsep dilakukan melalui pemanfaatan elemen mise-en-scène, komposisi, pencahayaan, lensa, dan pergerakan kamera yang saling mendukung dalam membangun makna visual. Proses penciptaan karya dilaksanakan melalui tahapan pra-produksi, produksi, dan pascaproduksi, mulai dari analisis skenario, penyusunan konsep visual, pengambilan gambar, hingga proses color grading. Hasil penciptaan menunjukkan bahwa penerapan visual metaphor mampu memperkuat penyampaian konflik, tekanan emosional, dan perkembangan psikologis tokoh tanpa bergantung sepenuhnya pada dialog. Dengan demikian, visual metaphor menjadi pendekatan sinematografi yang efektif dalam mendukung penceritaan dan meningkatkan pengalaman visual penonton.
