IMPLEMENTASI METODE BÉLA BALÁZS DALAM MENCAPAI KEDALAMAN EMOSIONAL MELALUI CLOSE UP DALAM FILM “SHE WHAT I SEE”

ABSTRACK
This research explores the role of the cinematographer in creating emotional depth through the application of Béla Balázs' theory in a short fiction film titled “She What I See.” The primary focus of this study is the use of close-up techniques to capture micro-physiognomy subtle and honest facial expressions as the main visual language to convey the internal conflict of the character Elena, who suffers from paralysis. Through the film creation method, the author implements a visual strategy that distinguishes between two dimensions of fate reality and dreams using lighting contrasts and intimate shot variations. The results of this creation are expected to demonstrate that the visual power of the human face can transcend the limitations of dialogue in building audience empathy and delivering a profound psychological narrative.

ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi peran sinematografer dalam menciptakan kedalaman emosional melalui penerapan teori Béla Balázs pada film fiksi pendek berjudul “She What I See”. Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah penggunaan teknik close up untuk menangkap mikro-fisiognomi, yaitu ekspresi wajah yang halus dan jujur, sebagai bahasa visual utama dalam menyampaikan konflik batin karakter Elena yang mengalami kelumpuhan. Melalui metode penciptaan karya film, penulis menerapkan strategi visual yang membedakan dua dimensi takdir realitas dan impian menggunakan kontras pencahayaan serta variasi shot yang intim. Hasil dari penciptaan ini diharapkan dapat membuktikan bahwa kekuatan visual wajah manusia mampu melampaui keterbatasan dialog dalam membangun empati penonton dan menyampaikan narasi psikologis yang mendalam.
