Perancangan Busana Wanita Modest Menggunakan Teknik Seminole Dengan Sisa Produksi Kain Batik Di Wayda byida

ABSTRAK
The fashion industry is one of the fastest growing creative industries; however,
it is also the world's second largest contributor to textile production waste, resulting
in various environmental challenges. This condition has encouraged the
implementation of the sustainable fashion concept as an effort to reduce the
industry's negative environmental impacts by repurposing production waste into
value added products. This study focuses on designing modest women's wear using
the Seminole Staggered Strip Pattern technique by utilizing batik fabric production
waste from Wayda byida as the primary material. The objective of this study is to
develop innovative modest women's wear by optimizing the use of batik fabric
production waste to create products with aesthetic, functional, and economic value.
The study is based on a review of the concepts of sustainable fashion, the Seminole
patchwork technique as a form of textile manipulation, and the growing
development of modest fashion within the global fashion industry. The research
employed an exploratory design method, consisting of identifying the
characteristics of batik fabric production waste, exploring the Seminole technique,
developing design alternatives, producing prototypes, and evaluating the final
designs. The findings indicate that the diverse sizes and shapes of batik fabric
production waste generated by Wayda byida can be effectively utilized through the
Seminole technique to produce harmonious geometric compositions, strengthen the
visual identity of the garments, and enhance the value of discarded materials.

Industri fashion merupakan salah satu industri kreatif yang terus berkembang,
namun juga menjadi penyumbang sisa produksitekstil terbesar kedua di dunia
sehingga menimbulkan berbagai permasalahan lingkungan. Kondisi tersebut
mendorong penerapan konsep sustainable fashion sebagai upaya mengurangi
dampak negatif industri melalui pemanfaatan kembali material sisa menjadi produk
bernilai. Penelitian ini berfokus pada perancangan busana wanita modest
menggunakan teknik Seminole Staggered Strip Pattern dengan memanfaatkan sisa
produksikain batik di Wayda byida sebagai objek penelitian. Tujuan penelitian
adalah merancang busana wanita modest yang inovatif dengan mengoptimalkan
pemanfaatan sisa produksikain batik sehingga memiliki nilai estetika, fungsional,
dan ekonomi. Penelitian ini didasarkan pada kajian mengenai konsep sustainable
fashion, teknik patchwork Seminole sebagai salah satu bentuk manipulasi tekstil,
serta perkembangan busana modest yang semakin diminati sebagai bagian dari
industri fashion. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode perancangan desain
dengan pendekatan eksploratif yang meliputi identifikasi karakteristik sisa
produksikain batik, eksplorasi teknik Seminole, pengembangan alternatif desain,
pembuatan prototipe, hingga evaluasi hasil perancangan. Hasil penelitian
menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik sisa produksikain batik Wayda byida yang
memiliki ukuran dan bentuk beragam dapat diolah secara optimal melalui teknik
Seminole sehingga menghasilkan komposisi motif geometris, memperkuat identitas
visual produk, serta meningkatkan nilai tambah material sisa.
