Abstract

Creating textures for environmental assets in animated films requires a method that produces realistic visuals while maintaining production efficiency. This study aims to design Physical Based Rendering (PBR) textures using the Image Painting technique for environmental assets in the animated film Nirmala, which focuses on environmental restoration. The research employed the Design and Development (D&D) method proposed by Richey and Klein (2007), consisting of the stages of analysis, design, development, and evaluation. The texturing process followed the PBR workflow by producing Base Color, Roughness, Normal, Ambient Occlusion, and Emissive maps using Image Painting techniques. The results indicate that the proposed method successfully produces realistic textures that align with the film's visual concept. Performance testing also shows that the low-poly model has a file size of 79 MB with a rendering time of 10 seconds, while the high-poly model has a file size of 103 MB with a rendering time of 20 seconds using the Iray renderer. These findings demonstrate that applying PBR textures based on Image Painting to low-poly models can maintain visual quality while improving file size efficiency and rendering performance, making the method suitable for 3D animation production workflows
