Abstract
This thesis presents the design and creation of 3D modelling assets for the short
animation film “Lens of Diary,” which is set in 1980s Jakarta. The research adopts
a practice-led approach, employing three primary instruments: a literature review
of visual references and cinematography theories from the 1980s, in-depth
interviews with industry practitioners in 3D modelling, and an audience
questionnaire to evaluate perceptions of authenticity and visual consistency. The
production pipeline was structured modularly, beginning with a low-poly blockout,
followed by edge loop insertion and beveling to refine form, high-poly sculpting,
retopology, UV unwrapping, baking and texturing, material assignment, and
concluding with quality testing and iterative refinement. Interview findings
underscore the importance of detailed blueprints and modular iteration to balance
historical accuracy with production efficiency. Questionnaire data collected via a
Likert scale indicate that audience satisfaction with the film’s retro atmosphere and
architectural details averages 74 %. The results demonstrate that a structured
polygonal modelling workflow, supported by historical research and iterative
feedback, can produce 3D assets that are consistent, authentic, and viable for
academic‐level production.

film pendek animasi “Lens of Diary” yang berlatar Jakarta pada dekade 1980-an.
produksi akademik.
