Perancangan Desain Sampul Naskah Buku Novelet “The Day I Tried to Live”

This final project discusses the cover design of a teenage novelette titled “The Day I Tried to Live”, themed around self-discovery. The objective is to create a cover that visually represents the story using illustration, typography, and color. Theories applied include publishing, graphic design, cover design, and novelette concepts, supported by the seven-stage graphic design process of Widya & Darmawan (2015): concept, media, idea, data preparation & design, revision, final artwork, and production. Data collection methods were literature study and manuscript
observation. The final result is a book cover design reflecting the main character’s emotions and completing the novelette project with the team, producing a book ready for publication.

Laporan tugas akhir ini membahas perancangan desain sampul buku berjenis novelet remaja berjudul “The Day I Tried to Live”, yang mengangkat tema pencarian jati diri. Tujuan penulisan adalah menciptakan sampul yang merepresentasikan isi cerita melalui elemen ilustrasi, tipografi, dan warna. Teori yang digunakan meliputi penerbitan, desain grafis, desain sampul, serta konsep novelet, dengan dasar proses desain grafis tujuh tahap dari Widya & Darmawan(2015), yaitu: konsep, media, ide/gagasan, persiapan data & perancangan, revisi, final artwork, dan produksi. Metode pengumpulan data berupa studi pustaka dan observasi mendalam pada naskah cerita. Hasil akhir berupa rancangan desain
sampul yang berhasil menampilkan nuansa emosional tokoh utama serta mendukung penyelesaian buku novelet bersama tim, sehingga menghasilkan karya buku yang siap diterbitkan.
