Abstract
The fast fashion industry has driven massive clothing consumption, generating
approximately 2.3 million tons of textile waste annually—equivalent to 12% of
total household waste that ends up in landfills (Sukmaningsih & Parwati, 2024).
Thrifting culture has emerged as a solution, yet it still poses environmental
challenges due to the accumulation of unsellable garments. This study highlights
the case of Ghaza 88 in Bekasi, where around 15% of women’s clothing in each
bale is found to be defective or rejected. The research aims to design sustainable
fashion products through an upcycling approach using macrame and Lampung’s
traditional sulam usus embroidery techniques. Grounded in sustainable fashion
theory (Kozlowski et al., 2019), sustainability encompasses environmental, social,
and economic dimensions, as well as aesthetic and cultural values. This study
employs a qualitative method with a design thinking approach (Hasso Plattner –
Stanford), involving the stages of empathize, Define, ideate, Prototype, and test.
The results demonstrate that this approach can transform damaged garments into
collections with high aesthetic and commercial value. The study is expected to
produce fashion pieces that not only reduce textile waste but also offer a
meaningful and sustainable design perspective.

Berlandaskan teori fashion berkelanjutan
(Kozlowski et al., 2019), keberlanjutan mencakup aspek lingkungan, sosial,
