PERAN CAMERA PERSON TERHADAP TEKNIK HANDHELD DALAM PROGRAM VARIETY SHOW “BEYOND THE HYPE”

The television program “Beyond The Hype” is a live variety show designed to
provide a platform for emerging musicians from Generation Z to showcase their
musical works in real time. In the production process of this program, the role of
the camera person is crucial, particularly in applying Handheld techniques to
create dynamic, intimate, and emotionally engaging visuals. This final project aims
to explain the role and contributions of the camera person in utilizing Handheld
techniques as a visual approach in the “Beyond The Hype” program. The author
uses a descriptive method through literature study, observation, and questionnaires.
Throughout the production stages—from pre-production to post-production the
author was directly involved and actively coordinated with the Program Director
in developing shot lists and designing the visual concept. The Handheld technique
was chosen for its ability to produce more expressive and natural camera
movements, supporting the live performance atmosphere in real-time. As noted by
Issandy et al. (2023), the Handheld technique gives a dynamic and realistic
impression because the camera is held directly by hand without the use of a
stabilizing tool. The result of this writing is expected to provide deeper insight into
the importance of the camera person role in shaping the visual aesthetics of
television programs, especially within the live variety show format.

Program televisi “Beyond The Hype” merupakan variety show live yang dirancang
untuk mewadahi musisi pendatang baru dari Generasi Z dalam menampilkan karya
musik mereka secara langsung. Dalam proses produksi program ini, peran juru
kamera sangat penting, khususnya dalam menerapkan teknik Handheld untuk
menciptakan visual yang dinamis, dekat, dan penuh emosi. Penulisan tugas akhir
ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan peran dan kontribusi juru kamera dalam
menerapkan teknik Handheld sebagai bentuk pendekatan visual pada program
“Beyond The Hype”. Penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan
studi pustaka, observasi, serta kuesioner. Dalam pelaksanaannya, penulis terlibat
langsung dalam seluruh tahapan produksi, mulai dari pra-produksi hingga pascaproduksi, dan secara aktif berkoordinasi dengan Program Director dalam menyusun
shot list dan merancang konsep visual. Teknik Handheld dipilih karena
kemampuannya menampilkan gerakan kamera yang lebih ekspresif dan alami, yang
mendukung suasana pertunjukan secara real-time. Seperti dijelaskan oleh Issandy
et al (2023), teknik Handheld memberikan kesan dinamis dan realistis karena
kamera dipegang langsung menggunakan tangan tanpa alat bantu. Hasil penulisan
ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang
pentingnya peran juru kamera dalam membentuk estetika visual program televisi,
terutama pada format live variety show.
