PENERAPAN HARMONI ELEMEN KOMPOSISI TERHADAP STORYBOARD ANIMASI “REACHING FOR THE STAR”

Sebuah cerita yang dikemas dalam format animasi dapat memiliki kebebasan visual maupun narasi kreativitas tanpa batas. Maka dari itu medium ini cocok dipakai untuk mengantarkan narasi visual yang mengangkat isu konsumsi berlebihan terhadap collectible material kolaborasi pada remaja dalam kurun 5 tahun ini. Pembuatan animasi pun membutuhkan adanya tahapan storyboard. Namun, pesan maupun visual yang disajikan dalam storyboard tidak akan tersampaikan dengan baik tanpa adanya harmonisasi dari elemen komposisi. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menambah wawasan dan pemahaman mendalam akan penggunaan elemen komposisi secara harmonis. Jenis penelitian kualitatif dipakai untuk mengidentifikasi pengetahuan penerapan keharmonisan komposisi yang akan diaplikasikan, lalu menggunakan metode pengembangan 4 Stages of Creativity dalam perancangan storyboard “Reaching for The Star”. Pengumpulan data penelitian akan menggunakan metode studi literatur yang berfokus pada buku Mastering Composition: The Definitive Guide for Photographers (2015) oleh Richard Garvey-Williams. Lalu metode observasi dan teknik quota sampling. Elemen yang dapat diteliti berasal dari Gestalt Theory yang berisi Figure/Ground, Similarity, Proximity, Closure, Continuity, dan Symmetry. Jenis komposisi yang diteliti berfokus pada komposisi asymmetry, rule of thirds, dan leading lines. Hasil penetlitan membuktikan bahwa penerapan elemen komposisi yang harmonis sangat dibutuhkan. Dengan rentang penilaian memiliki banyak nilai sangat baik pada penerapan elemen-elemen tersebut.

Stories presented through animation offer boundless visual freedom and creativity. Consequently, this medium is well-suited for conveying a visual narrative addressing the issue of excessive consumption of collaborative merchandise among teenagers over the past five years. Animation production involves a storyboard phase; however, the intended message and visuals cannot be effectively communicated without the harmonious integration of compositional elements. This study aims to deepen understanding regarding the harmonious application of compositional elements. A qualitative approach was employed to identify principles of compositional harmony, followed by the application of the "4 Stages of Creativity" development method in designing the "Reaching for the Star" storyboard. Data collection relied on a literature review—specifically focusing on Richard Garvey-Williams' “Mastering Composition: The Definitive Guide for Photographers” (2015)—complemented by observation and quota sampling techniques. The elements analyzed were derived from Gestalt theory, encompassing Figure/Ground, Similarity, Proximity, Closure, Continuity, and Symmetry. The study focused on specific compositional techniques: asymmetry, the rule of thirds, and leading lines. The findings demonstrate the critical importance of maintaining harmonious compositional standards, as evidenced by the high ratings achieved in the application of these elements.
